Ape Action Africa is a charitable organization dedicated to the preservation of endangered creatures including monkeys, chimpanzees, and gorillas. It stands as one of Africa’s most prominent initiatives for Ape conservation. The majority of the inhabitants at their facilities are orphaned creatures who have been rescued from unethical activities such as the illegal pet trade and the harvesting of primates for bushmeat. The dedicated caregivers regularly perform investigations on the 300 residents, and these assessments typically provide daily updates.
Every now and then, these animal caretakers are in for delightful surprises. One beautiful day, a caregiver had the privilege of witnessing a heartwarming encounter involving Bobo, a Western Lowland gorilla. Much to their astonishment, Bobo was seen tenderly cradling a young bush baby that had entered his presence. Incredibly, the bush baby exhibited no signs of fear and fearlessly explored the gorilla’s body, by showing a remarkable display of trust and camaraderie.
The youthful creature even ventured to hop around in the open before ultimately deciding to reunite with the gorilla. This occurrence didn’t come as a surprise to the caretaker, as Bobo was renowned for his gentle nature, despite being the dominant male of his group. He had earned his position by fending off challengers, yet his gentle side was also evident, as observed during this encounter.
Spotting bush babies during the daytime is unusual since they are primarily nocturnal animals. Additionally, no one at the Mefou Sanctuary had previously witnessed a wild Ape engaging with a rescued monkey. While the gorilla’s companions displayed curiosity towards the newfound friend, Bobo was not inclined to share. He desired exclusive ownership of the bush baby, wanting it solely for himself.
After a remarkable two-hour bond, the gorilla eventually guided his newfound friend back to the trees, where the bush baby vanished into the wild. Witnessing such an interaction highlights the incredible capacity for love and care that gorillas possess. Despite being feared by some and commonly associated with strength and intimidation, these magnificent creatures also exhibit a tender and nurturing side. It is truly astonishing to observe the depth of their gentle nature and dispel misconceptions about their character.
