On Friday, July 12, Sharon Stone posted a picture to Instagram that evokes one of her most famous on-screen moments as she remembers her lasting impact.
Reenacting an iconic sequence from the 1992 movie “Basic Instinct,” in which Stone played the mysterious Catherine Tramell, the 66-year-old Stone did so. Stone’s character attracted fans with her provocative behaviors in the interrogation room, such as smoking and baring her undies underneath a white dress.
Stone paid homage on Instagram by posing in a hot pink underwear set and sitting on a gold chair that had fluffy white cushions. Paris Libby, her stylist, took the photo, which has the caption, “Basically…yours 🥰.”
This classic portrayal cemented Stone’s status as a sex idol, a concept that was even mocked when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 1992. In light of the sketch’s contentious character, Stone recognized the disparate sensibilities of the time.
“I am aware of the distinctions between felonies and misdemeanors. Despite the criticism of the sketch, she expressed understanding in a comment on Dana Carvey’s podcast, saying, “Back then, we did not perceive it as inappropriate.”
Before having a stroke and going on a hiatus for recovery, Stone’s career took off in the 1990s. In a recent interview, she reflected on her experience and talked about the difficulties she faced re-establishing herself in the changing Hollywood scene after her recovery.
