Mark Wahlberg prefers to keep his personal relationship with God a secret while publicly displaying his Catholic faith by putting an ash cross on his forehead to mark the start of Lent.
The 51-year-old clarified to Savannah Guthrie, her co-anchor, that having a balanced conversation about religion is important.
Though I do not want to force my opinions on other people, I think it is wrong to keep quiet about them. A bigger transgression would be if I did not share my religion. It might not be common in my field, but I think it is necessary to voice my beliefs. At the same time, I understand how important it is to value and appreciate my friends’ many backgrounds and worldviews.
Mark Wahlberg emphasized that he and his wife, Rhea Durham, have four children together, and he approaches them all equally.

It is well known that there are some actions that cause us to feel guilty and less than our best selves. When asked to summarize his religious views, Wahlberg said, “It embraces everything.”
He continued, “It has given me many opportunities.” It is obvious that God did not come to save the good. He arrived to save the transgressors. We all want to become well, and by focusing on my faith, I have been able to do so.
