Celine Dion gave an amazing performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics despite the rain. With a magnificent performance of “Hymne à l’amour” from an illuminated Eiffel Tower, Dion triumphantly returned to performing after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022, which had prevented her from touring.

Lady Gaga and her pink pompom-clad dancers enthralled the audience with a captivating performance of “Mon Truc en Plumes” down the Seine during the nearly four-hour event. Gaga wrote, “Thank you for kicking off the Paris Olympics and promoting French culture.” Zinedine Zidane was shown carrying the Olympic torch across Paris in a pre-recorded segment. Celine had a beautiful solo to round off this historic inaugural ceremony musically. Her devoted followers were ecstatic to see her play live once more as her mesmerizing voice reverberated down the Seine River in Paris.

Opening ceremony creative director Thomas Jolly explained why Celine Dion was the ideal person to bring the event to a close.

“We have ‘L’Hymne A l’Amour,’ a love anthem, in the ceremony. We all decided that this song would be the perfect way to close the show. Jolly told Reuters, “Our initial notion was simple: we wanted the best singer for love songs, and that is Céline Dion.” “Asking her to perform to end the ceremony was a logical decision.”
