When I asked my neighbors to stop parking in my spot, they responded by taping my car. I could not let that get away with it.

Before Jack, his new neighbor, moved in, Gregory Watson lived in harmony with his community. Jack caused a lot of trouble by continuing to park in Gregory’s space. Gregory wanted that location for easy access to his home because he is in his fifties and has leg problems. He repeatedly requested Jack to park somewhere, but the issue persisted. Things worsened when Gregory saw his automobile covered with tape one morning.

Gregory was aware that the vandalism was being done by Jack and his son, Drew. In order to teach them a lesson, he sought the aid of Kris and Noah, his young neighbors. They devised a plot of retaliation together. That evening, the three set to work, coating Jack’s yard with biodegradable glitter, stuffing it full of plastic pink flamingos, and stringing loud wind chimes.

The following day, Gregory watched from his window as Jack and Drew went outside to see what kind of prank it was. As soon as Jack started blaming Gregory, the police responded. When they questioned Jack about the damage and parking violations, they produced the surveillance film and the recorded automobile as proof. Jack and Drew were brought to the station to be questioned.

Gregory worked with the cops to get back his parking space. He celebrated with Noah, Kris, and their grandma, Kelly, later that night. They laughed and told stories together, feeling unified and proud. During the holiday visit, Gregory’s grandson Harry was thrilled to hear about his grandfather’s cunning response.

Gregory was pleased with the way this event improved local connections while also advancing justice. He appreciated the close-knit sense of community that had developed and understood the value of having trustworthy neighbors. He learned the value of self-defense and establishing common ground by drawing on his common experiences.
